Congratulations, You Are Engaged! What Now?

Congratulations on your engagement!  This is one of the most exciting times ever (whoot hoot!). Many will start giving you advice, some of it helpful, some of it, not so much.  Stop, do nothing, and avoid falling into any wedding planning warp zone before you have had time to post an engagement photo on Instagram. We have compiled few things brides wish they knew NOT to do within the first two weeks when they get engaged…drumroll please and we will spare you the drama!

1. Inform and Post in Social Media Before Your Grandparents
You would be surprised how often this happens. Try and tell as many people in person as you can (it is so much fun seeing their reaction!), then call any other key friends and family, before you stick it up on the internet.
 2. Avoid Over-Promise and set expectations from the start
Do not say yes to anything and everything now and think you can sort it out later…that spells trouble. Do not to commit or make decisions about wedding planning in the first week of being engaged.  Do listen to what people have to say but do not feel obligated that you need to agree or take it all.
3. Hold off on Choosing Your Wedding Party
You might 100% on who you want for bridal entourage but hold off a little while before you ask them. Everything is dependent on the length of your engagement, your wedding vision, or your budget.   This also includes not booking anything.  It is only natural to start looking around for your venue but do not book until you have a clear vision of your budget and what your want for your day.
4. Do not Risk Wearing a Ring That Does Not Fit
Of course, you are excited to show off your rock but do not risk wearing a ring that does not fit. If your engagement ring is too big or too small make sure you get it resized immediately, before you start wearing it.  After all, who wants to risk of damaging or losing a ring?
5. Don't Buy a Dress
Do not jump the gun and go shopping for a wedding dress before you even get engaged.  As exciting and tempting to book a bridal appointment the moment you get engaged and start trying on dresses, it is important to think about what you want and just as importantly, what you can afford.  Getting a dress too early in your engagement is not giving yourself an option to see more options.
6. Don't Start Stressing

Being engaged is just the best feeling ever!  Throw a celebratory soiree; take (at least) a few weeks out to just enjoy being engaged before you dig into planning, budget spreadsheets, and dress shopping!
